Brocken Mountain Marathon 11.10.2014

As I planned this competition should be the last run in this successful season. My very first mountain running season.
A few weeks before this marathon I went to Harz Mountains to check the trail. It was not so complicated. Little bit up, than little bit down, in the middle the huge, 4 kilometers uphill part to the Mt. Brocken top, similar downhill part and than again, little bit up and little bit down. The essence of mountain running.

To Wernigerode I went with my wife and mother in law. She is the biggest fan of my running. We ate well, I picked up my bib and than watched history channel on German TV at the hotel. Just something to clean up the head…

There was raining the entire night. There was raining the entire morning. There was raining the entire run indeed. It stopped just a few kilometers before the finish line. I had no problem to choose a pair of shoes for this run. Salomon Speedcross 3 (little bit more about them soon on this blog) worked perfectly and thanks to them I was able to pass on another athletes at the last few kilometers of the run. A couple of them congratulated me at the finish. One of them even asked me how heavy I am, because he thought that some herd of bison was passing him…

The competition was organized in a solid, German way, in a very nice and cozy atmosphere.
One day, I will complete all mountain running competitions in Germany and will start to repeat the old ones, I will come back here definately.
I recommend this run to everyone who likes a mud and to finish his season with a nice and unpretentious event.
